Mildred Louise Garrison, born June 25, 1934 went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 24, 2006 after a courageous year long battle with lung cancer. Mildred was born in the small community of Lake Creek, Texas, third of four children to Jim and Jessie Mae Barnes. She was especially close to her baby brother James Barnes twelve years younger than she, who was born one day while she was at school. She often shared that she felt as though James were "her baby" a gift given to her and she would do anything to protect him. She was married for 50 years to Bobby Garrison who she met on a blind date after he returned from the Korean War. They were a prime example of how opposites attract, he being a quiet spirit and she exuberant in everything, but she loved him dearly. They had two daughters together and she loved her girls, but she truly relished in being a grandmother and would sacrifice always in order to do for her grandchildren.Even with her grandchildren grown she still took delight in slipping candy bars in their pockets and kept a house full of ice cream, candy and delights. You could never enter her home without being offered something to eat and the comforting aroma of home cooking was always present. She was self-less in her devotion to others and always had a kind word and room at her table for an extra person. Food, family and the simple pleasure of fishing were her passions. Fishing gear stayed tucked away in the trunk of the car just in case an opportunity arose for a moment to spend leisurely fishing by a pond. It was something she dearly missed as her health became poor. She taught us so many things about how to live life but most importantly she taught us the value of family and how to love unconditionally. She came from humble beginnings and shared often that "wealth and riches have nothing to do with money". It is a legacy she leaves behind to all that knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband Bobby Garrison, daughters Teresa Cauthen and Tina Gunderson, son - in-law Rick Gunderson. Grandchildren Brendan and Britany Cauthen, Lauren and Forrest Gunderson.Brother James Barnes, sister in-law Donna Barnes, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday December 29, 2006 from 6 to 8 pm.Services will be Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 11: am at New Hope Funeral Home. Interment 3 pm at Lake Creek Cemetery.
