Melvin Earl Brown, Jr. of Mesquite, born October 1, 1940, passed away September 22, 2017.As a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, his passing has left a void in our hearts and he will be greatly missed. Melvin was born in Grain Valley, Missouri to Melvin Earl Brown, Sr. and Florence Amelia Buck Brown, who preceded him in death.After atteding 1 year of college he enlisted July 30, 1958 in the Navy serving in active duty until October 1961 and then 3 years in the reserves.His boat deposited the first troops into combat and then returned to bring them out.Before that they made 3 mission trips into Vietnam.Surviving is loving wife of 55 years and 10 months, Glenna Lea Mann Brown; 3 beloved sons, Melvin E. of Forney, TX., Michael R. and wife, Kimberlee, Dennis D. both of Scurry, TX; grandchildren, Amber Lea Fritts, husband, Brian; great grandchildren, Addison L. and Braxton C. Fritts, Oklahoma, Matthew D. Brown, Florida, Melvin M. Brown, Puerto Rico, Nicholas S. Brown, Gabriel C. Brown, Moriah G. Brown and Joshua L. Brown, Scurry.Also surviving is a brother, John W. Brown, wife, Audrey, Fairview, TX; sisters, Joyce M. Snitker, Independence, MO, and Florence M. Long, Suwanee, GA. Melvin loved racing cars from open wing dirt tract to modified stock.But in the mid 60's, after a car accident in which he was the passenger, he was unable to work for an entire year.Grain Valley, MO. community was there for us and in return when his health returned he joined the police force to give back to that same community.Later in life he restored 1964-1965 Mustangs.But his greatest lovewas doing things his kids were involved in.He became a Den Master for the Boy Scout Troop in Tulsa, OK.With his giving spirit and love for cars, when he heard about Mimosa Lane's PitStop ministry he was there to help, it was such a joy to him again knowing he was helping folks in the community we lived in.Serving as greeter at the door on Sunday morning was another of the joys's in his life.Today there is no more suffering nor pain.Rest in peace my love, we will see you again soon. Service will be 10:00AM Wednesday September 27, 2017 at New Hope Funeral Home.Visitation will be Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 6PM - 8PM.Interment will be in DFW National Cemetery at 1:30PM Wednesday.
