Virginia M. Hicks of Mesquite was born on Father’s Day, June 18, 1939. Preceded in death by husband of 13 years, Kenneth R. Hicks; parents, Daniel Bascom McWhirter II, & Kathryn Mary Chandler; brother, Daniel Bascom McWhirter III; and Sister Mary Catherine Chandler, “Aunt Frances”. Survived by her son Robert Kelly Wesley and wife, Sherry York Wesley; daughter, Toni Martel Condra and husband, Bob Burmingham; grandchildren, who called her “Mimi”, Brian Wesley Condra, Blake Alan Condra, Robert Chase Condra, Bridget Virginia-Lynn Guevara and husband, Milton Guevara, Alex Turner, Jarrett Turner, Lauren Grimes, Sara Taylor; great grandchildren, Dalton, Aubree, Emma and Korra. Virginia grew up in Dallas and lived in Mesquite for most of her life. She raised her children with her first husband of over 23 years, Bobby Wesley. She worked for Western Electric, AT&T, and retired from Lucent Technologies after 22 years. She was a graduate of Forest Avenue High School in 1957 and received her Associate’s degree from Amber University at the age of 50 while maintaining a full time job. Her favorite past times were traveling, dancing, swimming, skiing, playing softball, and fishing. She loved to be around people and regularly practiced hospitality at her home. She doted on all her children and grandchildren, her “babies” as she called them, and enjoyed going to all of their activities. The legacy that she left behind was that she was always there. She was a believer in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and regularly went to Bible studies with her best friend, Sandy. She passed away September 7, 2018.
