Mary Ann passed away at the age of 60 in her home peacefully with her sisters by her side. She was born on November 28, 1962, in Dallas, Tx at St. Paul Hospital. She was born to Mary Maria Castillo and John Arzola Cruz. Mary Ann is the oldest of 4 girls and older sister to Dianna Cruz, Nancy Cruz Sharpe and Gloria Cruz Godfrey. They grew up in Pleasant Grove a suburb of Dallas, Tx.
She is survived by 3 Sister: Diana Cruz of Garland, TX, Nancy (Scott) Sharpe of Frisco, TX, Gloria (Chirs) C Godfrey of Rockwall, TX. 8 nieces and nephews: Roxsan (Roberto) Paredes of Grand Prairie, TX, Amanda (Jesse) Bailey of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Samantha (Alan) Snowden of Allen, TX, Nicole Rodruguez of Idaho Falls Idaho, Kristen Rostro of Grand Prairie, TX, Michael Watson of Allen, TX Hannah Sharpe of Addison, TX and Dewey "DJ" Godfrey Jr of Rockwall TX, as well as 21 great nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann was born with Down Syndrome and despite her special needs, she excelled in the hand bell club, bowling club and had numerous trophies, and one of the proudest moments for Johnny and Mary was when Mary Ann graduated high school from W.W. Samuell High School in 1984 and walked across that stage to get her diploma along with her baby sister Gloria. Mary Anns' most memorable moment was when she was crown Queen of the Peppermint Ball!
Mary Ann was like any other typical woman who loved her soap operas, Dancing with the Stars, Little House on the Prairie, watching Frozen with her sisters and of course flipping through her free subscriptions of her soap opera books.
Another love Mary Ann had was her taste for her mothers homemade tortilla with butter and extremely hot salsa! When she wasn't eating tortillas, you could find her drawing or writing numerous letters to each and everyone.
Her family recalls her numerous trips to Walmart to buy drawing paper, pads, pencils, pens and all those glittery stickers in red, silver, gold and black which stuck to everything in her room especially on her bed, her carpet and herself.
There was no mistaken though, when little Mary smiled, she LIT up a room and she was truly a "CRUZ"!
She loved to talk, loved to flirt and she Loved all her husbands! I think you all know who you are! Mary Ann was especially fond of Chris whom she called husband, threw him kisses and winked at him daily.
Mary Ann was quite the dancer, you could always find her on the dance floor at all the quinceanera's, weddings, birthday parties and family gatherings.
Along with all her silliness and fun Mary Ann had a love for the Lord like no other. She love to sing and rejoice and occasionally you would find her at the front of the church dancing. Her love for the Lord started at Beacon Hill Baptist Church, she grew up to know the Lord at Bethany Baptist Church and ended her fellowship of Family Cathedral of Praise. Mary Ann LOVED the LORD and she is rejoicing and dancing with the Lord in her new body in heaven.
