Marvin Neil Overstreet

Marvin Neil Overstreet was born in Kansas City, MO on June 20, 1946.He went home to Heaven on November 5, 2018 at the age of 72.He was the fourth child of Grace and Leon Overstreet.The family moved to Yakima,WA when Marvin was very young.He grew up playing baseball, swimming on a swim team, and working the local orchards.Marvin attended Selah High School in Selah, WA, near Yakima.He played on the schools's basketball team that he loved so much.He had many friends, and he has shared many stories with Susan and the children of the fun times he and his friends had. Many of those stories he would not want us to share with you today.Marvin graduated from high school in 1964 and attended a junior college in Washington for a year.When he was nineteen, his parents were living in Las Vegas, NV, and Marvin decided to live with them for the summer.He had not attended church for several years, but that summer he started going to church with his parents.During that summer, he was baptized, and he never wavered in his love for the Lord after that. He was a strong Christian and shared his beliefs with many people.One of his largest goals was to go on a mission trip, and in 1998,he and Susan went on a trip to Nairobi, Kenya to see the church and school that Berkley Hacket had established with much support from HOCC.Three years later, Marvin returned to Nairobi on a medical mission trip, working for the dentists, including Gottfred Olsen, who were there servingthe people in the area.A few years later, Marvin and Susan became involved with Let's Star Talking, an organization that teaches the bible by teaching English.Through LST, they went on three trips; Lima, Peru, Singapore, and Cologne, Germany.Marvin was such a lover of history, geography, and the Bible and these trips fulfilled him in many ways.After becoming a Christian, Marvin enrolled at Oklahoma Christian College.He graduated from OCC in 1970 with a degree in business and Bible. He worked as an accountant for a year and a half and quickly figured out that sitting behind a desk was not for him.He then went into the construction industry. He worked in many phases of construction or the rest of his career, retiring in 2008 as a carpenter for the Mesquite School District.He was a master carpenter and specially enjoyed building cabinets and furniture.Marvin is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Susan; children, David Overstreet and wife Amanda of Honolulu, Hawaii; daughter and husband, Barbara and David Kinast of Denton; daughter, Carmen Ayo of Sunnyvale; son and daughter-in-law, Carl James and wife, Andrea, of Dallas; ten grandchildren, Michael, Lawson, Isaac, Annabelle, Lincoln, Polly, Ollie, Dixie, Atlas, and Bliss; brothers, Fred Overstreet of Yelm, Washington and Steven Overstreet of Athens; sister, Kathy Miller, of Pasco, Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Interment will be held at Golden Cemetery in Golden, Texas at 3:00PM on November 9, 2018.
