Marvin Gene Krumnow

Marvin “Bud” Gene Krumnow, of Dallas, Texas, born 11/22/1936 to Ernest and Mamie Krumnow in Belton, Texas, passed 4/30/2020 at the age of 83. After graduating from McGregor High School, Bud, a proud American, served our country in the United States Army, which included a tour in Germany. While there, he met and later married Christa Schroer with whom he had two boys, Ricky and Steven. Although their marriage didn’t endure, they remained friends in the best interest of their boys. In 1974, Bud married Treva Wheat and became a stepdad to Steven Wheat. Bud and Treva remained married until Treva’s passing in 2013. Bud’s knowledge of historical facts amazed many, and he loved country music. He and Treva owned and operated the Texas Stroll, a country music dance hall in Mesquite for many years. Their enjoyment of country music, dancing, entertaining, and becoming friends with many loyal patrons enriched their lives. They also owned several gas stations and convenience stores throughout North and Central Texas. Later in life, Bud worked in pharmaceutical deliveries where he enjoyed the people he met, as well as the responsibility placed upon him for his customers’ well-being. Bud enjoyed road-show type traveling where he learned of little-known facts about out-of-the-way towns, especially throughout his native Texas. He also loved getting away on gambling trips with family and friends to various gambling destinations during which some notable memories were made, including: He and Treva were honored by participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony as part of the inaugural flight into the West Wendover, Utah Airport. He loved playing slot machines so much that everyone knew when looking for him they’d find him most likely sitting at the Buffalo machine..and winning enough to keep him coming back. He would demonstrate an uncanny ability to tell family and friends a particular machine was about to “hit,” and urged them to play the machine. Many times, this ability resulted in winnings in excess of thousands of dollars for those taking his advice. The funny thing was most of the time, he was too cheap to trust in his own clairvoyance. Bud is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Kathleen Krumnow; stepson and step daughter-in-law, Steven and Nan Wheat; grandchildren Lauren Wheat, Cari Scarlata and her husband, Vincent, Tyler Krumnow and his fiance, Brittany Taylor, James David Krumnow, Steven Kyle Krumnow; great-grandchildren, Nora and Lily Scarlata, and Parker Rey Krumnow; nieces and nephews, Suzan Kovar, Laura Beauchamp and her husband Rick, Mark LiVigni and his wife JaNel, and Michael LiVigni and his wife Kimberly; great-nieces and nephews Johnny Kovar II and his wife Jaime, Joshua Kovar, Kalina Douglas and her husband William, Kyle Evans and his fiance, Kelly Gilbert, Grant Fischer, Blake LiVigni, Logan LiVigni, and Faith LiVigni; one great-great-nephew, Seth Kovar, and beloved friend, Helen Pappas. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Treva; his beloved parents, Ernest and Mamie Krumnow; his youngest son, Steven Krumnow; his dear sister Thomasine LiVigni and her husband, Tony; his younger brother James “Rusty” Ernest Krumnow; his nephew, Johnny Kovar; and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins. Bud will be memorialized in a private gathering of family and close friends after COVID-19 restrictions are more widely lifted. Cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of New Hope Funeral Home, Sunnyvale, Texas.
