Martha McCurdy Bailey

March 18, 1932 — July 30, 2016

Martha Dee McCurdy Bailey, 84 of Mesquite Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 30, 2016. Martha was a native Dallasite who graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in January of 1949 and married Lloyd Bailey on June 10th of that year.Martha and Lloyd were active members in the Mesquite Elks Lodge, where she served as the Mesquite Elks’ Ladies’ Auxiliary President in 1975, earned the prestigious title of Mesquite Elks’ Member of the Year in 1988, and was also voted the Mesquite Elks’ Sweetheart in 1991. Martha’s is a life to be celebrated and emulated.While managing a home and raising four children, she worked full time in the insurance industry until her retirement from Alexander & Alexander.Martha was the first resident of the Evergreen of Mesquite Senior Living, where she developed numerous friendships over her twelve years of residency, and was voted President of their first Residents’ Council.Martha made lifelong friends and enjoyed many fun adventures with the Vivacious Divas of the Evergreen Chapter of the Red Hatters Society, and was constantly involved with planning fun events and served as Queen Mum of her chapter. At the age of nine, Martha gave her heart and life to Jesus, and as she put it, “We have been together ever since!”Martha was active not only in the Congregational Methodist Church on Ash Lane in Dallas, but was also a charter member of the Eastridge Park church, where she was known as “Ms. Martha, the prayer warrior,” and was adored by all.She became affiliated with Keystone Church upon the recent merger of the churches.Martha held many positions within the denomination and her church over her years of service, including board member, Sunday school teacher, and member of the choir.Martha had a beautiful voice and sang in the church and Evergreen choirs.She also performed at children’s events and in parades as Hugs the clown. Martha loved the Lord, but she also loved her Dallas Cowboys.Martha was an avid football fan from the Blue Warriors pee wee football and drill, to Friday night football of J.L. Long Jr. High Buccaneers, Woodrow Wilson Wildcats, Mesquite Skeeters, and especially the North Mesquite Stallions.Martha and Lloyd retained their season tickets to the Stallion games, even after all of their children had graduated.Everyone in the stands knew Martha by her “Go Stallions!” blue hat. Martha is survived by her brother in-law O.R. Hinkle of Ventura County California, sister Carole McCurdy Williams and her husband Bobby of Wolfe City, daughter Susan Farley of Mesquite, daughter-in-law Tara Bailey of Forney, daughter Gina Meek and her husband Robert of Rowlett, and son Sam Bailey and his wife Tracie also of Rowlett.She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.Martha was predeceased by her husband Lloyd Alton Bailey, brother Edward Delaney McCurdy, Jr., sister Lynne McCurdy Hinkle, and son Lloyd Scott Bailey. Visitation will be held at New Hope Funeral Home on Tuesday 5:00-7:00 and the Celebration of Martha’s Life will be held at Keystone Church of Mesquite, 1575 Clay Mathis on Wednesday at 11:00am. THE FAMILY REQUESTS THAT IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, DONATIONS BE MADE TO THE MARTHA BAILEY MEMORIAL FUND OF KEYSTONE CHURCH MESQUITE.
