MCCLELLAN, Marshall "Mutt" of Mesquite, born February 11, 1920, passed away September 1, 2003. He was a WWII veteran and a Mason.He retired after 29 years with Dallas Transit. Preceded in death by wife, Gladys. Survived by daughter, Martha Knox & husband, Alvin; son, Lynn McClellan & wife, Linda; daughter, Peggy Murry; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren. Services will be 10:00AM Friday, September 5, 2003, at the New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, with Lynn McClellan, officiating.Interment will be in Red Oak Cemetery, Blossom, Texas. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00PM - 8:00PM. Marshall Earl McClellan (Mutt) was born Feb. 11, 1920 in Bogata, Texas.Moved to Plains Texas in 1923 and played on the first Plains High School football team.His first job was working with cattle in a roundup, worked with Shell Oil at one time.In 1939 while on a vacation in the Lamar County area, he met Gladys Mitchell and they were married on the 1st day of Sept. 1942, which was 61 years to the day Mutt passed away.Mutt and a buddyjoined the U.S. Army in the spring of 1943 and returned to Plains in Sept 1945 ready to go to work in a civilian job. He moved to Arkansas and worked with an old Army buddy in 1948 and moved to Dallas in 1951.Mutt began driving a streetcar for the Dallas Railway & Terminal Co., which later became Dart, then drove a bus until he retired in 1980.They were blessed with 3 children, Martha, Lynn & Peggy.The family lived around Rylie and Pleseant Grove area.A Member of Rylie First Baptist Church for many years and then Mabank First Baptist Church.Mutt & Gladys moved to Cedar Creek Lake area for a life of Riley after retirement.Mutt was able to enjoy a lot of years traveling and enjoying friends & relatives and telling stories of unbelievable excitement & humor.Enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren was what life was all about in his late years.If he could speak now he would say, "love the Lord and love your family no matter what."He always told us all "life is hard and you will always owe someone, so slow down and be happy." Someday we will join Mutt when we are called home and we can hold him in our arms forever.
