Mark Wayne Steele, age 81, was called to his heavenly home on June 15, 2024 after a long bout with cancer and other medical issues. He was born on October 28, 1942 to parents Albert and Barbara Steele in Wayne County Michigan and grew up in Indiana.
Mark joined the Air Force right after his high school graduation and was stationed at Dyess Air Force in Abilene, Texas. He worked as part of a special crew with the 42nd Munition Maintenance Squadron until 1965. From there he attended college to become a certified teacher and taught school for 27 years. After he retired from teaching, Mark worked for Air Salvage for a while and then with Mountainview College in their teacher certification program.
Mark had a love for flying and airplanes and shared this love with friends and family. If you were lucky enough to have flown with him, you probably loved the adventure. Only a few know of his nose dives, spins or the occasional fake heart attacks and telling you to take the wheel.
He was blessed in 2007 when he married Cecilia Francis and extended his family. Cecilia and Mark were members of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas. At church, Mark would hand out lollipops to children every Sunday after Mass and became known as the "lollipop grandpa from church"!
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Barbara Steele.
He is survived by his brother, Albert Larson Steele; his sisters, Peggy J. Hunter and Claudia Higham; daughter, Amanda Miller; 3 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren; also, 2 step-sons, 1 step-daughter, 8 step-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild.
Mark had a great life and we will all miss him very much.
