Obituary for Marjorie Bays Marjorie Jewel Buckelew Hynds Bays, a sixth generation Texan, was born July 31, 1918. She graduated from Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman€™s University) in 1939. She married Nat Hynds in 1940. They had two daughters, Glenna Jo and Norma Sue. Mr. Hynds died in 1952 and Marjorie married David Bays in 1957. After a twenty-one year career in public education teaching third grade at Florence Black Elementary School of the Mesquite Independent School District, Marjorie had a twenty-three year career with the Mesquite Public Library System where she was responsible for building the genealogy section from a very modest collection to one including over 10,000 items. Marjorie contributed significantly to the research and recording of the history of the city of Mesquite including serving on the committees that published the four books; Mesquite Reflections; School Names; History of First Presbyterian Church, Mesquite Texas, 1881 €“ 1981; A Stake in the Prairie, Mesquite Texas; and Mesquite City Cemetery. She also assisted in the research of several Texas Historical Commission markers in the Mesquite area. Marjorie Bays was the charter president of the Hiram Bennett Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas as well as an active member of the Richard Bard Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a long time member of the Mesquite Historical and Genealogical Society and the First Presbyterian Church of Mesquite. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Berry and Haytee Buckelew, her husbands, Nat Hynds and David Bays and by her older sister Audra Anderson. She is survived by her younger sister Sue Lee of Pecos, Texas, her daughters Glenna Johns and husband Mike, Sue Corey and husband Jerry, her grandchildren J. D. Schulgen and wife Shelli, Sue Netherland and husband J. R., Glen Schulgen and wife Katrina, Heather Holt and husband Steve, Honor Hukill and husband Mart, and Dr. Christopher Johns-Krull. Great grandchildren John Schulgen and wife Amanda, William Netherland and wife Brielle, James Schulgen and wife Bailey, David Netherland, Cody and Tyler Pinnell, Elizabeth Johns-Krull, Benjamin Schulgen, Cole Sparks and Abigail Schulgen, and great, great grand daughter Amelia Marie Schulgen and numerous nephews and nieces. The family wishes to especially acknowledge the love and attention of aides Rhonda Guerra, Rebecca Rabe and the Agape Hospice Care.
