Marian Themer

August 20, 1925 — November 27, 2023

Marian Clara Schroeder Themer, was born in Okarche, Oklahoma, on August 20, 1925, and went to meet her Saviour Jesus Christ on November 27, 2023, at the age of 98 years.

She was baptized and later confirmed on April 2, 1939 in St. John Lutheran Church, with its beautiful stained-glass windows that she always admired when returning to Okarche and attending Sunday services with her many relatives.

Not all know this, but Marian was an "all-conference" basketball player more than once for the Okarche Warriors, played in the State Tournament, and even picked up a black eye in one physical contest. She graduated as Valedictorian on May 20, 1943, from Okarche High School.

Her next stop was Saint Anthony's Hospital School of Nursing in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she completed the three-year course of instruction and passed the examination to be granted the status of a Trained Nurse.

Moving on, Marian graduated cum laude from St. Mary College, Xavier, Kansas, on June 2, 1948, with a Degree in Nursing (R.N.) and as a member of Delta Epsilon Sigma, exclusive Honor Society, and proudly served as a member of the Army Nursing Corps during WWII.

On December 28, 1949, she married Paul John Themer in St. John Lutheran Church and moved with him to Forney, Texas, where she became a devoted wife and a loving and caring mother to children, Don and Ann. Cooking, washing, helping with homework, cleaning dirty shoes, being a chauffeur, nursing illnesses, going to "sporting" events, preparing for family get-togethers and reunions, and so many other small but important activities at home and away kept Marian busy but so happy.

Marian was very active in the Community-substitute teaching, helping with FISD school class parties, being an officer in the P. T. A., serving as a Cub Scouts Den Mother, assisting with 4-H activities, and being involved with a host of Church activities at Hope Lutheran Church in Dallas (such as Ladies Aid, Senior Citizens Director, Pastor's Secretary, and Sunday School Teacher), Our Savior Lutheran Church in Rockwall, and helping to "found and begin" Water of Life Lutheran Church in Forney.

Marian was also the person who regularly went to Kaufman to get into the travelling library van, drive it to Forney, serve many, many patrons who checked out books in the Themer driveway, and deliver the van and all the library records back to Kaufman.\

Probably most enjoyable for her and for her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren were the countless times and hours she "played" with them at her house and at the "school play yard," cooked their favorite foods, took trips with them, and "spoiled" them with gifts, treats, game sessions, and entertainment at sporting events, reunions, and family get-togethers!

Even after the death of husband, Paul, Marian continued to worship in and help with activities at Water of Life-and even as she became less mobile and relocated to Three Forks Assisted Living in Forney, where she became known as "MaMa" to many of the Staff and continued to share her faith in Jesus.

Mom Themer, for the past years, had continued to worship and praise her Saviour but sometimes wondered aloud why the Lord had not called her to be with Him in Heaven. On November 27, 2023, at 11:14 a. m., she peacefully went to be with her Heavenly Father.

She was preceded in death by parents, Herman and Emilie Schroeder; siblings, Alvin, Martin, and Hilbert Schroeder, and Selma Stiles; husband of 59 years, Paul Themer. Surviving her are Children-Don Themer and wife, Vivian, and Ann Themer Moreau and husband, Bob; Grandchildren-Will and Holley Themer and daughter, Kherington; Waylon and Mary Anne Themer and children, Ella and Luke; Weston and Katie Themer; Nicole (Moreau) and Andy Adair and their children, Benton and Miles; Simone (Moreau) and Brian Wilkirson and their children Kara and Evan; Sister and Brother-in-Law-Frances and Leonard Dungan (Oklahoma), and many Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Church Family Members.
