Margaret Ruth Cates Burchett was born April 15, 1959, in Houston, Texas to Don and Stella Cates. She went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 20, 2019. Margaret is survived by her mother, Stella Cates; her children: Misty Holler and husband David, Joseph Burchett, and Marla Burchett, all of Forney, TX; her grandchildren: Christine, Sean, Alex, Maggie, Micah, Evelyn, & Tate; her brothers: Bill Cates and wife Susan of Brenham, TX, John Cates and wife Belinda of Dallas, TX, and Harry Cates of Heath, TX. She also leaves behind an enormous loving family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and extended family. Margaret is preceded in death by her father, Don T. Cates. A beautiful picture of a life devoted to serving Jesus by serving others, Margaret taught fourth grade Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Forney for over 30 years, taught in Children’s Choir and Vacation Bible School for decades, worked as a legal assistant under multiple attorneys including her father, and spent countless hours behind the scenes making sure things ran as smoothly as possible and her family felt special and loved. Margaret never missed an opportunity to spend time with her family. Her children and grandchildren were her proudest accomplishments, and she modeled for them what it truly means to put Jesus first, others next, and yourself last. Margaret welcomed many “bonus” family members into her life, and everyone who met her felt loved and at home around her. The world was blessed to have experienced life with Margaret for the past 60 years. She was selfless, humble, loving, and thoughtful. Her family and friends will miss her terribly, but they rejoice in knowing that she is with Jesus. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider carrying on her legacy of a giving spirit by making a donation in her memory to the Children’s Ministry at FBC Forney. Donations can be sent to the church directly, but should say “Children’s Ministry – Margaret Burchett” in the memo line.
