Gene Osborne

July 30, 1937 — November 11, 2024

Mansford Eugene "Gene" Osborne, age 87, passed away on November 11, 2024, in Quitman, Texas. He was born on July 30, 1937, in the community of Climax, Texas to parents D. W. and May Donna Osborne.

Gene attended Forney High School from 1950-1954 where he played football and baseball. It was there he met his future wife, Alta Vineyard, to whom he would later marry in September 1957. Gene and Alta would welcome a son, Gene, Jr., into the world on March 9, 1959.

Over the years, Gene worked for several employers which included Ford Motor Company, Smith Electric, Mac Truck, and Gates Rubber Company. He worked primarily as a truck driver and bought a rock truck, hauling rock to help build Highway 80. He stayed with Gates until he joined Joe Hodges Trucking in 1967. When the company sold, Gene started driving for Blaschke Trucking Company in 1974 and would later run their Dallas office until he retired in 1993.

Gene was an active member in his community, coaching little league baseball, serving on the Forney City Council, and the Forney School Board at which time he was able to hand Gene Jr. his high school diploma.

After retirement, Gene and Alta moved to Hainesville, Texas and took up RVing, visiting almost every state west of the Mississippi, and then some. Gene also loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising quail and bird dogs. Most of all, he loved his Lord. He would read his Bible every morning and listen to Pastor David Dykes while drinking his coffee.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Alta; son, Gene Osborne, Jr.; brother, Randy Osborne and wife Susan; and sister, Monna Kinel.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Durwood and May Donna Osborne; brothers, Elvis Osborne and Charles Osborne; and sister, Elda Skinner.
