In a World of Roses, Be a Sunflower

Lisa Lorene Ewton Mitchell was that sunflower. She did things her way and in her beautiful style. Lisa left this earth and entered heaven on Saturday, August 27, 2022 in Mabank, Texas.

Lisa was born on November 25, 1962 in Dallas, Texas to David and Jessie Lewellen Ewton. Growing up in Mesquite, her childhood was full of adventure. It really depended on whether she was hanging out with the Viva Dr. or Apollo Way neighborhood crew. According to her sister Lori, a typical day on Viva was always a day of "pretend" with Sherry Elliot Piccolella, Robyn Roe McKinney, The VanLehn's, The Box Brothers, but most of all Susan Jones Pool, who was like a sister to Lisa and Lori. They could all make a rain puddle at the curb become their own lake. They would sit and "pretend" fish, talk, and eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Sherry was good at making fishing poles out of sticks and string, and Lisa, well she was good at talking. When Lisa moved in 4th grade to Apollo she found a whole new neighborhood crew that consisted of The Naberhaus's, Magee's, Boyle's, Givens's, Guzy's, and Winn's.

Lisa attended North Mesquite High School, Class of 1981, where she had many friends that congregated at the Ewton house. Their favorite hang out was "The Corner", where at times, up to 45 kids would gather. Because all the parents on the street monitored the kids, parents from other areas were even comfortable dropping their children off at "The Corner." A lifetime of memories were made for all of these kids, just hanging out on a corner. Family adventures consisted of weekend trips to Lake Texoma and Colorado, where Lisa's daddy taught her how to REALLY fish and enjoy the outdoors.

Lisa married shortly after high school in 1983 to Jimmy David Mitchell. They shared an adventurous life of the great outdoors. They both loved wildflowers, beautiful sunsets, and Lisa continued her love of fishing when she married Jim. They loved collecting rocks from their different journeys and on Sundays would ride through the country, just talking. In 1987, Lisa and Jim began adding to their family when Mandie Bre'Ann was born. Later two boys came along to add to their "wolf pack." Trevor Hayden was born in 1990 and Sterlin Hunter in 1993. They were the beat of her heart, the pulse in her veins, and the energy in her soul. They enjoyed camping at Lake Hawkins and Purtis Creek with the kids. Between the three kids, Lisa was blessed with seven beautiful grandkids who called her "Grandma", or as she would say it "Glam-ma", because we all know she was too glamorous to just be "Grandma". Lisa was fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home wife and mother, her entire life. She kept her sister's kids until they started school, as well as her friends' children.

Lisa was very nurturing, fun, playful and big-hearted. She had a laugh so big and dimples so deep, you would start laughing with her. Her laugh was contagious. She never walked anywhere. She danced her way from room-to-room, as she did life. Dancing was her stress relief. She loved listening to her music, whether it was Classic Rock or Christian, she loved it all. She loved to cook, work on crafts, but most of all she LOVED the Dallas Cowboys and looked forward to Sunday games.

Lisa met her best friend of all time, Sandra Sterling, when she and Jim started going to Robinwood Baptist Church. God put her in Lisa's life for a reason. Lisa's life quickly took a turn in 1998 when Jim was diagnosed with Leukemia. She spent 15 very difficult years taking care of Jim through many appointments, illnesses, a bone marrow transplant, and eventually graph vs. host disease that took his life in 2013. Sandra never left her side and continued to be that best-friend.

After Jim passed, life was difficult for Lisa. She wanted to give more than she had. She was full of advice, bible scriptures to share with you, and quotes on living life. She gave her heart in everything she did and to everyone she knew. Her strong faith carried her to the end, where she was reunited with all her family that preceded in death before her. This included her husband, Jimmy David Mitchell, parents, David and Jessie Ewton, Grandparents, Clifford and Lorene Lewellen, Mother-in-law, Barbara Overturf, Aunt Pat and Uncle Ronnie McDaniel, Aunt Dean Lewellen, Aunt Lois Lewellen, Uncle Jerry Lewellen, and cousin, Kathy Lewellen.

Left to carry her legacy of love are her children Mandie Bre'Ann Mitchell Hargrove and husband Chad, Trevor Hayden Mitchell and wife Rachal, and Sterlin Hunter Mitchell, brother Steve Ewton and wife Paula, sister Lori Ewton Bazan and husband Esteban, sister-in-law's Pam Mitchell Freitas and Laurie Remley McMoran, grandchildren Jimmy Mitchell, Jenna Hargrove, Luke Hargrove, Tristan Mitchell, Jack Mitchell, Castiel Mitchell, and Arya Mitchell. Lisa leaves aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends who will cherish their memories with her. Lisa will be remembered and never forgotten. We will see you again. This is not where it ends.
