Lillian Fay Kirkland, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, at the age of 95.
Lillian was born on April 20, 1929, in Brownsboro, Texas, to Lemmie and Katie Young, and was one of nine children. She had a deep love for education and, at the age of 25, began her college journey, ultimately earning a master's degree in education from East Texas State University. She dedicated 32 years of her life to teaching elementary school students in the Mesquite Independent School District, leaving a lasting impact on generations of young minds before retiring in 1989.
On January 8, 1972, Lillian married the love of her life, Jack Kirkland, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. After retirement, she enjoyed sewing, traveling, renovating old homes, gardening, and, above all, caring for her family, both near and far.
Lillian is survived by her devoted daughters, Carolyn Alexander and Sunny Perdue; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Cassey Amburn and Steven Govender-Simons. Her legacy will live on through Taylor Lee, Tynleigh Hughes, and Kimberly Dobbs who she loved and adopted into the family as her own. She will be fondly remembered by her extended family, dear friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A visitation will be held at 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, on Friday, March 14, 2025 at the Mesquite Church of Christ. Burial will take place at Long Creek Cemetery in Sunnyvale, Texas.
Lillian's warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and students will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
