Lillian Porter Higgins was a true Texas original. She was born May 7, 1915 in a home built by her grandfather W.T. Minor in Lewisville, Texas. The home was built in the mid-1870s on land acquired from the State of Texas Land Grant Program. Mr. Minor built his home on part of his property and donated the other part to Chinns Chapel United Methodist Church and School. The original family home in now located at the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Center in Lewsiville. Lillian was the youngest of five children born to C.O. and Alice Minor Porter. She was a Christian, an honor student, and a high school basketball star. She married Albert R. Higgins in 1934. She worked as a sales lady and computer operator to help support her family. She was a talented artist, gardener, hostess, and fixer of everything. She was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She made every holiday and birthday into a festive occasion. Her home was always open to her large family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years A.R. Higgins; her parents; her four siblings Ruby Gregg, Fred Porter, Olin Porter and Ray Porter; her son-in-law Joe Duncan; grandson Phillip Brad Finley; and great-grandson Brandon Mehrdad. She is survived by her children, Michael R. Higgins (Ann), Donna Duncan (Joe), and Carole Finley (Herman); her grandchildren Diana Finley Coates (Bill), Michael S. Higgins (Robin), Scott B. Higgins, Dr. Andrew R. Higgins, Debbie Thurman (Mark), Donald W. Duncan (Caryn), and Laurie Mehrdad (Hamid); thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many beloved friends. Her family was blessed to enjoy her love, hospitality, and wisdom for their entire lives. She lived a truly blessed life. Funeral service will be at 11:00am April 13, 2016 at Eastridge Park Christian Church with Dr. Scott Wooddell presiding. Family visitation will be from 10:00am – 11:00am at the church. The family would like to thank Dr. Raymond Agerwall, the staff of Three Forks Senior Living, and Dignity Hospice for the wonderful loving care given to grandmother.
