Laverne Harman Marshall, age 90, of Mesquite, Texas died surrounded by her devoted family after an 11-year battle with Parkinson’s. Born and lived in Dallas until 1997. Preceded in death by her husband of 56 years James Marshall. Laverne graduated from Forest Avenue High School, Draughn’s Business School and A.I.B. She worked for several Dallas banks and retired after 30 years of service from the accounting department at General Motors. Laverne is survived by her daughter Linda Hogue and son Steve Marshall and wife Cara, brother Charles Harman and wife Patty, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends. She was a member of Pleasant Mound Methodist Church in Dallas. Laverne was a former children’s Sunday school teacher at Centenary Methodist, Urban Park, and Pleasant Mound Methodist Churches as well as a volunteer for the Southeast Dallas Food Pantry and Mesquite Medical Center. Laverne possessed a servant heart; leading a life of service to God and those around her and trying her best to make lives better to all that knew her. Visitation will be at 9:00AM Thursday December 6, at New Hope Funeral Home. Memorial service to be held at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, Texas at 10 am on Thursday, December 6; internment to be held at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery at 10:15 am on Monday, December 10.
