Larry McCann

April 8, 1945 — September 30, 2024

Larry J. McCann, 79, of Balch Springs, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. He was born on April 8, 1945, in Blair, Oklahoma, and grew up in Slate Shoals, Texas. Larry graduated from Powderly High School in 1964 and worked for over 50 years as a warehouse supervisor for Sears.

In honor of his remarkable career, Larry celebrated his 50 years with Sears by traveling to the corporate headquarters in Hoffman Estates, Chicago. He and his sister Loretta enjoyed a memorable weekend meeting fellow employees and partaking in sightseeing and fine dining.

Larry was a sweet, quiet soul who cherished time spent with his family. His love for his sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews was evident in every moment they shared. He and his brothers-in-law would jump car dealership fences to look at cars, and he never missed a chance to join in the fun on Christmas mornings, eager to see what his great-nieces and nephews had received from Santa. His playful heart and special connection with his great-nieces and nephews made him beloved by all.

Larry is survived by his sisters, Ann Graves, Carolyn Baker, and Kathy Young, as well as his twin brother, Gary McCann (wife Gayle). His sister, Loretta Morris, passed away just eight days after him. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Powell McCann, and brothers-in-law, Ronnie Young, Jack Baker, and Thomas Graves.

A memorial service honoring Larry and his sister Loretta will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Forest Chapel Cemetery in Chicota, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to support Myelodysplastic Syndrome research (MDS Foundation.)
