Lambert (Bert) Carl Johnson passed away at his home in Mesquite, Texas on May 15, 2023, at the age of 82. Bert was preceded in death by his brothers, Elmer, Clarence, Arthur, and Victor, by his sisters Thelma and Erma, and by his great-grandson, Trystan Dickens. He will be deeply missed by his surviving sister, Cleo Anderson, Marie Ann (Trosclair), his wife of 58 years, and his daughters Angela Rothermel, Rebecca Melton, and Cassandra Dickens. He is also survived by his grandchildren Nathan Rothermel, Benjamin Rothermel, Ryan Rothermel, Brian Smith, Brandon Smith, Morgan Melton, Victoria Dickens, Harold (Trey) Dickens III,, and Valerie Dickens, and his great-grandchildren Jayden Pritchett-Dickens, Ryker Talley, Emory Wilson, Rowan Dickens. Bert was born in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to his parents Albin and Marie Johnson. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1962 and served his country for seven years. After Bert's service in the US Air Force, where he worked in the military electronics field, he joined Varo, Inc. for 10 years as a marine searchlight field representative where he was involved in sales and service of marine communications and navigation equipment. He then moved to their missile launcher division, installing and programing them at various NATO sites. Bert retired from Lockheed-Martin in 2005 as a field engineer in their Missiles and Fire Control division providing advanced weapons systems to the US Army. While Bert had a passion for fishing, camping, hockey, and NASCAR, his primary focus was on helping and spending time with his family and neighbors. He actively participated in his homeowners' association in various capacities and was always ready to lend assistance or advice. He was a member of Emmanuel Pentecostal Church, where he loved by all who knew him. His numerous nieces and nephews fondly remember him for his pancakes and love of dominos and card games. A visitation will be held Friday, May 19th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at New Hope Funeral Home, 500 US Highway 80 E, Sunnyvale, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 20th at 10:00 am at Emmanuel Pentecostal Church, located at 1200 Poplar Dr, Mesquite, Texas. After the graveside service at New Hope, everyone is invited to return to Emmanuel Pentecostal Church for a reception held in Bert's honor.
