Juanda "June" Freeman Miller, 74, previously of Rowlett,went to be with her Lord on October 2, 2013.She passed peacefully at the home of her daughter in Mesquite as her chaplain sang her favorite songs and many family and friends nearby. Visitation will be at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, Texas 12:00-1:00 Saturday, October 5th.Funeral service will be held at New Hope at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Kim Morgan officiating. She will be laid to rest under two pecan trees at Long Creek Cemetery. June was born at home in Loop, Texas to J.C. and Ellis Marie Freeman (Tot) on March 5, 1939.She joined four brothers and a sister and grew up on the family farm where she weeded the cotton field and milked the cows.She was a "star" basketball player and cheerleader at Loop High School.She graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1961 with a degree in education.She taught the second grade in Midland, Texas for one yearIn 1962 she married Homer Miller and moved to Dallas.They were married for 29 years. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and sister. Her weekends were always full of plans with a grand child. June was defined by her compassion for others and it showed through the service she provided to a wide range of people over many years.The list includes Big Brothers and Sisters, New Beginning Center (womens shelter), her church and nursing homes.She also worked for Operation Life teaching illiterate adults and visited with patients at Terrell State Hospital and the VA Hospital in Dallas.She worked with children at the Dallas District Attorneys office and befriended several elderly ladies in the later years of their lives. Her personal interests include reading her Bible and watching Dr. Stan's sermons on t.v.She was an active member of First Rowlett Methodist Church before becoming ill. June is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, James and Robert Freeman. She is survived by her daughter, Deedee Cooper and husband Matt of Mesquite;son, Mark Miller and wife Theresa of Murphy; five granddaughters, Brienna, Traci, Keri, Sierra, and Sophia; one grandson, Ellison Stone "Stoney"; one sister, Mary Lou Marple; two brothers, Kenneth Freeman and Joe Freeman; and countless nieces and nephews and friends.Last but not least she also leaves behind her cherished shih tzu, Melvin. Her family wishes to thank Christian Care hospice, Tina Martin, Carla Highwood and Kimberly Stevens for the love and care they have shown June in the last few months.
