Judith Jenks Hershey Hawkins, 80, of Mesquite, Texas, passed away in Dallas on April 23, 2021, surrounded by family members.
Judy was born in Detroit on September 6, 1940, and moved to Marshall, Michigan, as a young teen. She later relocated to Indiana, where she met Bill, the love of her life. The two were married on January 14, 1967. Judy and Bill moved to Texas in 1969 with their son Todd, and this is where their younger children, Troy and Tammy, were born. The Hawkins family made a loving home in Mesquite.
Judy’s outgoing personality served her well as a Boy Scout parent and Title Agent, and she made many wonderful friends along the way. Slowing down after retirement, Judy enjoyed crafting, making beautiful cards for fortunate recipients. She also loved tending to the plants around her home, playing card and board games, watching her children and grandchildren play sports, and dining out with family and friends. Judy chose the perfect gifts for those she cared about, she made sure to keep up with loved ones all over the country, and she was always ready for a coffee and some great conversation.
Judy was preceded in death by her mother Marjorie Jenks Hershey, father Robert Hershey, stepmother Grace Hershey, brother Ed Watson, and adoring husband William (Bill) Hawkins.
She is survived by her sister Susan Dunkelberger, sons Todd Hawkins and Troy Hawkins, daughter Tammy Roberts, grandchildren Taryn Willey and husband Scott, Trevor Hawkins, and Anna Roberts, a great-grandchild on the way, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews, along with many friends who were like family to Judy.
Our hearts are broken at the loss of this very special person, who was such a bright light in our world. However, we are comforted to know that soulmates Judy and Bill are together at last. We will see them again someday, and that will be a time of true celebration. For now, we can only smile at our memories and be forever grateful that our wonderful Judy was part of our lives.
