John H. Whaley, Jr. age 76, of Mesquite, TX, passed away February 8, 2020. He was born October 23, 1943 in Duncan, OK to John H. Whaley, Sr. and Dola B. Palmer Whaley. He married Melba June Flowers on February 29, 1964. John was very proud of having served in the US Army during the Viet Nam War, reaching the rank of Sargent. His hobby was woodworking. His specialty was hand-made pens and pencils. John was a Past Master Mason and has been the Secretary for the Mesquite Masonic Lodge #928. He was also a member of the Hella Shrine Temple and Scottish Rite of Dallas. He worked as a Database Administrator for the Federal Reserve Bank. He was a proud “Okie” and was lovingly known as PaPa to his grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, and brother-in-law, Steve McAdoo. John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Melba June; daughter, Jenae Johnson and husband Brad; granddaughter, Sara Johnson (16) and grandson, Ryan Johnson (11); brother, Geary Whaley and wife Suzan; sister Kathy McAdoo; nieces Jennifer Youtsey and husband Joseph, Kayla Witt and Rachel Witt; aunts, Mattie Whaley of Duncan, OK and Christine Massey of Dickson, TN Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday February 13, 2020 at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, 500 E. Highway 80, Sunnyvale, TX. A gathering for family and friends will be held 6-8 PM on Wednesday evening, February 12, 2020 at New Hope Funeral Home.
