John Calvin”J.C.” Owens, Jr. was born on November 2, 1928 in Forney Tx. to John Calvin and Evie Criswell Owens. He went to be with the Lord November 21, 2014 at Baylor Hospital after a long battle with pneumonia. JC was a graduate of Forney High School. He attended East Texas State College and University of Texas, majoring in architecture. He served in the Marine Corp as a Staff Sgt. during the Korean War from August 5, 1950- July 6, 1954. As a young man he worked with his family at “Owens Country Sausage.” He owned Owens Shoes in Richardson from 1957-1965. In 1965 he became a manufacturer’s rep for ladies apparel until he retired in 1998. He was President of the Salesman Association in Lubbock, Oklahoma City and Amarillo. He was President of Richardson Kiwanis club, the first President of the Quarterback Club of Richardson High School and President of Forney Historic Preservation League. JC loved high school football, he loved the “Longhorns” and most of all he loved his family. He was a wonderful cook, entertainer, salesman and he possessed a great sense of design. He was preceded in death by his parents John Calvin and Evie Criswell Owens; brothers, Clifford, William “Oco”, Cleve, and Travis Owens; sister, Edna Owens Kimsey; and first wife of over 30 years SuLain Owens. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sally Moore Owens; his daughter, Lisa Owens Miller and husband Bruce “Thunder” Miller; grandson Tyler Miller; his daughter, Laurie Cummings and husband, Kevin Cummings; grandsons Drew and Garrett Cummings; and beloved dog Missy. A memorial service will be held Monday December 1, 2:00pm at Forney United Methodist Church,414 West Broad Street, Forney TX75126.
