Dinner is always better if it's eaten after Paw Paw's prayer. As a family tradition, before every meal together, we would always circle up in Gigi and Poppy's living room and Paw Paw would lead us in prayer. In the last years of his life, the prayers were even sweeter because they were passionate and tearful. 2. Don't eat too much candy. Paw Paw always told us that if we ate too much candy then our teeth would fall out and we would get round and fat like him. We definitely refrained from stuffing ourselves with junk food because of Paw Paw's expert advice. 3. True love is unconditional. Paw Paw and Ga Ga remind us all of a Nicholas Sparks love story, such as The Notebook. Their love for each other is unconditional and they showed it everyday. They stood by each other and set a prime example for this family as to what holy matrimony truly is. 4. You've got to start small if you want to get to the big potty. Paw Paw built us each our own potty training seats from wood, complete with hand painted floral decoration. He made potty time a fun time for all of us, and now we can't help but smile when we see the little wooden chair and the plastic bucket that helped us grow up into big kids. 5. Always lead by example. Paw Paw was a born leader, and was the rock in our family. He led our family by example and had high expectations for each of us, and whether he knew it or not, he instilled leadership skills in each of us that we use and will continually use in our everyday lives. 6. Things mean so much more when they're built with your bare hands. Paw paw built us all kinds of things. From shelves to Christmas decorations, he built anything and everything for us out of wood from his own hands. He had a passion for building with wood, and we will always treasure the things he built for us. 7. Nothing in life comes easy. Paw Paw and Ga Ga worked hard in their lives, and never expected anything to be handed out to them. They taught their children the value of a good work ethic who passed it on to their own children, and the work ethic that Ga Ga and Paw Paw had will continue to drive this family for centuries. 8. Reading is one of the luxuries in life. Paw Paw and Gaga were avid readers. When they used to baby-sit us at their house when we were just toddlers, they would read us all kinds of books. They read so much, in fact, that the librarians at the Dallas Library allowed them to initial each book they checked out so that they would not re-read them. 9. Nothing is sweeter than Ga Ga's gentle kiss. Ga Ga is the most gentle person in this family. Her sweet smell and affectionate kisses can brighten up anyone's day. Her motherly, nurturing nature makes her the backbone of this family, and she inspires all of the women in this family. 10. Never make excuses. Paw Paw grew up in the circus, and could have easily led a rowdy, unethical life. Instead, he choose to go above and beyond the expectations and never blamed his dissatisfactory past for any of his mistakes. His commitment to a fruitful life, quite the opposite of his life growing up, inspires each of us. 11. Jesus is number one. Paw Paw and Ga Ga led a Christian life, and followed right down the path that Jesus left for them. Their Christian faith blazed the trail for a path that our family will continue to travel. 12.Life's not what you take; it's what you leave behind. Paw Paw and Ga Ga built a firm foundation from which an abundance of good, righteous people were sprung. They are both very selfless people, and they did not take much from this world, but they left behind children, grandchildren, and great grand children who will carry on their legacy for generations to come. One can honestly say that our Paw Paw and Ga Ga have left and will leave this world a better place than it was before.
