John Wayne Carroll

May 13, 1956 — August 28, 2024

With full hearts and a lot of love, we share that our father, John Wayne Carroll, has made his final journey to reunite with our mother and sister in Heaven. At 3:53 pm on August 28th, 2024, John Wayne peacefully returned home to our Lord.

Born on May 13, 1956, in Dallas, Texas, John Wayne was the baby of the Carroll family, the last son of Tomie and Willie Mae Grace Carroll. It was a well-known secret that Johnny was his mother's favorite-a title he wore with pride, along with the claim of being the prettiest of the bunch. The Carroll boys had a reputation for being a bit rough around the edges-stubborn, strong-willed, and never backing down from a challenge-but underneath it all, they were big-hearted, loving men who would give you the shirt off their back.

John Wayne graduated in 1974 from W.W. Samuell High School in Dallas, where he was a Spartan through and through. As Captain of the football team and President of the Key Club, John Wayne's leadership and charm were already in full bloom. He continued his football journey at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, before trading in his cleats for a career in the beer industry. John Wayne was a natural salesman, making friends wherever he went. He was the beer guy everyone knew and loved, first with Willow Distributors for Coors and later with Miller Beer, before finishing his career with Frank Smith at SoDak Management and finally Trainor Construction.

In 1975, John Wayne hit the jackpot when he married Jeanne Allen Heuss, the love of his life. Together, they built a beautiful life with their three children: Jennifer, John II, and Janice.

John Wayne is survived by his daughter Jennifer Carroll and her husband Bryan Fratar; his beloved grandsons Zane Bandfield, Finley Fratar, and Logan Fratar; his son John Wayne Carroll II; and his grandchildren Alaina and Donald Saunders, Christopher Sepulveda, Alyssa Sepulveda, Victoria and Mason Schildmeyer, Sophia and Paulo Torres Jr., Victor and Maria Sepulveda; and great-grandson Matthew Schildmeyer. He also leaves behind his brothers, Tommy "Doc" Carroll and Bob Carroll, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were all touched by his kindness.

He now joins in Heaven those who went before him: his parents, Tomie and Willie Mae Grace Carroll; his wife, Jeanne Heuss Carroll; his daughter, Janice Carroll; his daughter-in-law, Angelina Carroll; his siblings Donna Dimon, Phillip Carroll, and Nick Dee Carroll; and his nephew Nathan Dimon.

In true Carroll fashion, John Wayne never let go of the things or people he loved. He was the ultimate hoarder of treasures and memories, and his greatest treasures were the friends and family he held so dear. Dad, Papa, we LOVE you more than words can say. We promise to keep your memory alive, cherishing all the lessons you taught us. #OMAHA
