Joel Paul Michael

MICHAEL, Joel Paul passed away on July 21, 2012 at home in Mesquite, after a lengthy illness. Born July 6, 1936 on the family farm in Evant (Coryell County) Texas, he was the firstborn of two sons of Johnnie Bertrand Michael and Lola Estell Sellers Michael. Joel Paul graduated Evant High School in 1954 and moved to Dallas where he was employed by Lone Star Gas. He married Lois Fayrene Kirby on March 29, 1958. On April 8, 1959 he was inducted in the 4th Army 84th Artillery Battalion and stationed in Oklahoma. Following completion of active service March 30, 1961 with SP4 rank, Joel Paul and Fayrene returned to the Dallas area to resume their jobs and live in the Mesquite area the remainder of his life. They are the parents of one son, John Shelby Michael, and one daughter, Ruth Shawn Michael. General Electric later became Joel Pauls employer where he enjoyed working in appliance repairs, dispatching and a variety of duties continuing until retirement. Joel Paul is survived by his wife, Lois Fayrene Kirby Michael; two grandsons, Colton Shelby Chappell and Joel Conner Chappell; son-in-law, Brian Chappell and sister-in-law, Inez Michael, together with a host of cousins, extended family and friends who hold him in high esteem and will cherish fond memories of him. He is preceded in death by his son, daughter, brother, father and mother. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon from 1:00PM to 2:00PM. Service will be 2:00PM Wednesday July 25, 2012 at New Hope Funeral Home, 500 E. Hwy. 80, Sunnyvale, TX. 75182 with Rev. Gilbert Davis officiating. Interment to follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park, 4118 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX.
