Joe Thomas Tilger

Joe Thomas Tilger, Lt. Col. USAFR, retired, was born near Leonard, TX October 4, 1932 and passed away April 25, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Beason S. and Corine Tilger and his brother, John H. Tilger. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Bess Tilger, his daughters, Vickie Tinsley, Karen Dockery and husband Mike Dockery, son Joe Tilger, Jr. and his wife Ann Tilger. Grandchildren Josh Halvorson, Laura Halvorson, Chris Dockery, Taylor Dockery, Amanda Tilger and Ryan Tilger and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.He graduated from Leonard High School and East Texas State University earning a Bachelor of Science and a commission to the U. S. Air Force in 1953.He also received a Masters of Education in 1958.During his 50 year educational career working for D.I.S.D and M.I.S.D. he worked at several schools including B. H. Macon Elementary, W. B. Miller Elementary and West Mesquite High School.Mr. Tilger held positions as a coach, teacher and administrator as he touched the lives of many students and individuals.He enjoyed traveling and the game of golf with his close friends.The family appreciates the excellent care given by the doctors, nurses and staff at Baylor Hospital of Dallas, Christian Care Center of Mesquite and the Hospice nurses that gave him such tender care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.Service will be 10:00AM Thursday April 29, 2010 at Mimosa Lane Baptist Church, 1233 N.
