Jerry Wayne Smiddy of Mesquite, Texas died peacefully May 22nd, 2016 at 05:54 PM surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. He was born June 15th, 1937 in Tira, Texas to James Lloyd and Beulah Marie Chapman Smiddy.He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Dale Smiddy. Jerry Wayne is survived by his wife Madeline Gail Jackson Smiddy of 58 years, 11 months and 7 days; his beloved children Teresa Gail Schafer Barcus of Mesquite, Beverly Susanne Landis of Rockwall and Chad Wayne Smiddy of San Francisco, CA and sons-in-law Tim Barcus and Ronny Landis.His grandchildren, Paige Schafer of Dallas, Arizona Barcus of Mesquite, Parker and Preston Landis of Rockwall, made him so happy.Nephews Richard, John and Jim Smiddy, niece Gale Morgan, numerous cousins and friends also survive him. Jerry Wayne graduated from North Hopkins High School in 1955.He worked for General Motors and Rockwell International before joining the Dallas Police Department in 1958.He graduated from Dallas Police Academy in Class #63 and performed dutifully without a chargeable accident for 30 years.While serving at the Dallas Police Department he was drafted by the US Army where he served for 5 years in the Army and Army Reserves.After retiring from the DPD, he continued to serve the Public by taking a position as Deputy Constable in Dallas County where he served in the Irving office retiring after 10 years. As anyone who really knew him could tell you, he loved giving unsolicited advice, spending time with his family and working on the family ranch raising beef cattle and donkeys.It was his belief that any food could be improved with ketchup.Enjoying coffee, watching westerns and the weather were among his favorite pastimes.He was gifted mechanically; there was nothing he couldn’t fix. His family and friends will miss him and his unique sense of humor. Tributes in lieu of flowers may be made to the Tira Cemetery Fund, 776 FM 1536, Sulphur Springs, TX 75482-0752.
