He was born to James and Josephine Harvey on November 17th, 1940 at his home on Carpenter St. in Dallas, Texas. His family moved to the Houston area when he was young, and he graduated from Missouri City High School in 1959. He served in the Army from 1960 until 1965. Just before basic training, he visited his Aunt & Uncle's church in Dallas where he met the love of his life, Birtie Mae Williams. They married shortly after on December 22nd, 1960. They celebrated the birth of their first daughter Sheila in 1961, followed by Sheryl in 1964.
After leaving the military, he started his career in sales working for Coca Cola, Goodman's Produce, and Sysco. He was called to ministry early in his marriage and faithfully served the Lord as a worship leader, youth pastor, evangelist, full time pastor, and care pastor for nearly 62 years. After retiring from the pulpit, he went to the police academy at the young age of 69. He served as a police officer for both Kemp and Kerens Police Department and retired from law enforcement after 11 years of service.
