January 15, 1939 — June 9, 2006

HAWKINS, Jean Bailey, age 67, passed away June 9, 2006 in Dallas, TX.after a brief illness. She was born in San Augustine, TX. to Gene and Lois Bailey.She graduated from San Augustine High School at the age of 16.Her independent spirit brought her to Dallas, TX. at the age of 17.She began working secretarial jobs, with the majority of her career as an administrative assistant at Dallas Osteopathic Hospital and Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. She married Ray Hawkins in 1964, who was a Dallas police officer for 26 years. Jean and Ray have been blessed with a devoted and loving marriage.They have shared many years of joy with their cherished family and friends. Jean has always been known for her generosity, fun sense of humor, and her ability to organize ANYTHING.She coordinated the Annual Police Retiree Picnic for 11 years.Jean was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Forney for 15 years. She was a tireless volunteer who gave her organizational and leadership skills to contribute to her Church family. She was the President of the United Methodist Women for 3 years.She was on the worship committee and coordinated the ushers and the Service of Communion.She served as the Nursery Coordinator, as a chairperson for the Annual Bazaar Auction, and was on the planning committee for the Annual Ladies Retreat.She attended 11 of the 12 retreats and was often the "life of the party". She is survived by her husband, Ray Hawkins of Mesquite, TX.; daughter, Kathy Helberg & her husband, Lewis of Tulsa, OK.; daughter, Karen Ayala and her husband, Paul of Rowlett, TX.; son, Mark Hawkins and his wife, Jennifer of Austin, TX.; mother, Lois Bailey of San Augustine, TX.;brother, Marlin "Pete" Bailey and his wife, Judy of Shelbyville, TX;6 beloved grandchildren, Laura, Kristina, Layla, Amber, Connor and Brannon. She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Bailey and her brother, James Bailey.She will be forever loved and missed by her family and friends and she shall remain in our hearts always. Service will be 11:00AM Monday, June 12, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church of Forney, 414 W. Broad St., Forney, TX. with Rev. Arville McClain officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 3:00PM - 5:00PM. Family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Forney Building Fund.
