Dorse Jayne Sakis Kessner, 70, joined many family and friends in Heaven on Friday, June 12, 2015. Visitation will be held at New Hope Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be New Hope on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. with the burial immediately following at Hillcrest Cemetery in Forney. Jayne Kessner was born November 19, 1944 in Dallas, Texas. She was the daughter of Andrew Woodrow Sakis, Sr. and Nadine Guthery Sakis. She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 35 years, Mike Kessner, her parents, and her brother, Andrew Sakis, Jr., grandparents, aunts, and uncles. She is survived by her daughter, Micheal Kessner, and son, Danny Kessner and his wife, Michelle, two grandchildren, Zackary and Hannah Kessner, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and aunts. Jayne graduated from W. W. Samuel High School in Dallas in 1963. She attended East Texas State University, now Texas A & M University-Commerce, where she earned her Bachelors of Science and teaching certification in 1967 and her Masters in Education in 1971. She was the PE teacher at John Ireland Middle School in Dallas ISD from 1967 to 1969. She taught PE and 4th through 6th grade, mostly 5th grade, English language Arts at Edna Rowe Elementary School in Dallas ISD from 1969-1997. She was a substitute teacher in Garland ISD in 1997-1998, Mesquite ISD in 1998-2000, and Forney ISD in 1997-2002. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Dallas and also attended First United Methodist Church of Forney. Jayne was in Rainbows as a girl and was a member of the Mike Thomas Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and a member of the Forney Chapter for 30+ years. She was a Girl Scout leader and Service Unit Team Member for Service Unit 183 throughout the 1980s and early 90s. Once her granddaughter was old enough to join, she continued to volunteer and assist through Troop 3002. She has made a lasting impact on girls and their families. She also volunteered with Boy Scout Pack and Troop 339 during the 1980s and early 90s as well and became much more involved when her grandson joined. She has enjoyed camping, badge work, and working as a Committee Member and with Board of Reviews. She loved Forney Jackrabbit sports and the Esprit de Corps, soccer, which her son and grandson played, and experiencing dance rehearsals, recitals, and competitions with her granddaughter. Jayne left a lasting impression on the thousands of children she taught and the educators with whom she worked. She has moved people to service and volunteerism, caring for others, the importance of education and being a life-long learner, love of travel, and a great big heart filled with love and support for those she called family and friends.She will be missed here on earth, but we will see her again.
