Janice Taylor was born on February 19, 1940 in Waco, TX and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 25, 2018. Janice grew up in Waco, TX roaming her beloved Cameron Park looking for rocks, fossils and artifacts with her brother Cliff. As children, both sang on the local radio station “WACO” during the “Jones Fine Bread Saturday Morning Talent Show.” They won the talent show so many times, that they became “regulars” singing the ‘Jones Fine Bread’ theme song every Saturday morning. Janice also sang with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys on another radio station. The family moved several times during her childhood, eventually settling in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. In her teens, Janice was a model for Sanger-Harris in downtown Dallas plus welcomed another brother into her life, Mica. In high school, she actively participated on the debate team, in band and ROTC, while also working as a waitress in the evening at Naler's. After graduating from Adamson High School in 1958, Janice was offered a full four year scholarship to SMU to pursue either music or geology. As an avid “rock collector,” she chose geology. One summer afternoon, she met and fell in love with a country singing, guitar playing man while horseback riding with friends. She chose marriage over college, and on September 9, 1959, Janice married Donald Dale Taylor. By 1964, they were blessed with four children – Dee Dee, Tim, Randy and Leland. After their children were all in school, Janice went to work for Safeway Stores, Inc. where she became their EPIC Coordinator in charge of switching manual operations to the computer and was also the first woman in administration allowed to attend board meetings. Following the close of all Safeway stores and offices in the North TX division, she continued to work 5 more years as their very last employee representing Safeway in lawsuit settlement litigations, claim reconciliations and court hearings. Janice retired from Safeway after 25 years of service. In her spare time she loved to sing, play ‘cat gut’ bass, piano, guitar, oil paint and create crafts. She, along with husband Dale also enjoyed operating several vendor booths at the Mesquite Rodeo, State Fair of TX and local flea markets, though nothing gave her greater joy than spending time with family. Janice journeyed through this life as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, “Grandma,” “Great-Grandma,” aunt and friend. She was always loving, humble, kind, forgiving, humorous and “in control.” She will be remembered for her faith in the Lord, sweet smile, laughter and courageous fighting spirit. Janice will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
