Janet Dare McCullough was a fiercely independent, sassy, funny and courageous woman, who loved her family and friends deeply.She was born May 26, 1940 in Garland, Texas to Lillie Mae Williford and Randolph Lee Massey, the middle of three children who were raised in Murphy, Texas and moved home to heaven on Sunday morning, April 10, 2016. Janet was an avid sports fan and especially loved her Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.She attended every game she possibly could for her daughter as she was growing up and continued that tradition with her granddaughters who play soccer and volleyball.Janet worked as an accountant for Western Auto in Garland, Texas until her retirement.She also loved movies, playing cards and dominos and after her retirement usually went to at least 1 – 2 movies a week.She was a fixture at the Senior Center in Garland, where she met a lot of wonderful friends.Janet was a loving, caring person who opened her home to those who had no other place to turn.She always showed kindness and compassion and helped anyone she could. She married Billy McCullough in July 1970 in Wylie, Texas and together they had one daughter, Kelli Dare McCullough Spencer who blessed Janet with two granddaughters who were the light of her life. Janet also was gifted with three additional children brought to their union by Billy’s previous marriage.Janet loved each of her step-children dearly and treated them just as if they were her own biological children.They, in turn, loved and respected her deeply. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lillie Mae Williford Massey, her father, Randolph Lee Massey and her older brother, Dale Lee Massey. Janet is survived by her daughter, Kelli of Mesquite, TX, her younger brother, Jim Ed Massey and wife, Faye of Bonham, TX and one sister-in-law, Judy K. Massey, of Carrollton, Texas. Three step-children:Debra Kay Simmons Vaughn and husband, Steve of Purcell, OK, Billy Joe McCullough, Jr. and wife Lynn of Texarkana, Texas and Tammy Jean McCullough Loveless and husband Danny, of Caddo Mills, TexasTwo grandchildren, Kaetlin Hannah Spencer and Hailey Francis Spencer, of Mesquite, Texas and numerous step-grandkids and step-great grandkids.Even though they were “step,” Janet never treated them any different than she did her own biological grandchildren. Janet is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and beloved friends. A memorial service will be held in Janet’s honor on Saturday, April 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Life Church in Forney, Texas, with Pastor Randy Wade presiding.The family would like to thank the Dallas Regional Hospital 3rd floor and ICU staff for their loving, tender care prior to Janet being placed with Hospice Plus for the remaining hours of her life.Hospice Plus provided guidance, prayer and support to Janet and her family during the time we had remaining with our precious mom and step-mom.We thank and appreciate them very much.
