Mesquite – Janet Johnson, 63, a long-time resident of Mesquite, TX, was called home to be with the Lord on September 12, 2018 with her family by her side. Born in 1954 in Pinebluff, Arkansas to Pete Burris and Aliene Henderson, Janet was a woman of strong faith and a love for travel. She is enjoying a heavenly reunion with her father, Pete Burris and his wife, Dorothy Burris along with her little sister, Barbara Burris. She was born with a servant’s heart and was loved by everyone who knew her. A devoted member of Family Cathedral of Praise for over 20 years, Janet loved her church and was always eager to volunteer for any church event. She loved the opportunity to serve others, one of her greatest gifts. Her church family and friends held a special place in her heart. They were so faithful in their love for her and, especially generous with their support and prayers during this difficult time. A proud resident of Mesquite, Janet spent over 60 years in her beloved city. One of her proudest moments in her professional career was obtaining a job within the Mesquite Police Department processing payroll for the brave men and women protecting and serving the city she called home. The family is so appreciative of their service to the public and how kind they treated Janet during her tenure. She was extremely proud to work for the same department as the fine men and women in uniform. Janet is survived by her husband Martin Johnson, her daughter Deanna Johnson Allison (and husband Kenneth Allison) and Janet’s two brothers Bradley Burris (and wife Tammy Burris) and Robert Burris. She is also survived by her mother Aliene Flanagan. Martin and Janet were married for 42 years and shared a life with his three children and their families. Their children Connie Johnson Maples (and wife Pennie Maples), Robin Johnson Waldrop (and husband Larry Waldrop), Marty Johnson (and wife Lisa Johnson) gave them a total of 5 grandchildren (Bart, Chad, Chase, Jessica and Jacob), as well as 4 great grandchildren (Baylee, Wyatt, Kenzie, Wes and a new little one on the way). Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 18 from 5-7pm and the funeral service will be Wednesday, September 19 at 10am. Both events will be held at Family Cathedral of Praise Church located at 790 Windbell Circle, Mequite, TX 75149.
