Janet Mae Hagood

September 18, 1954 — July 3, 2017

Janet Mae (“Jan”) Hagood passed from a temporal life on Earth to God's eternal care in heaven on July 3, 2017. Jim Hagood, soul-mate of 42 years, held her hand in witness to the fact that an abiding faith in Jesus Christ can and will sustain joyous contentment throughout the very best and very worst of life. Jan was born on September 18, 1954 to Curtis and Lillian Bingham who raised Jan and her younger brother Gary in the very home they presently reside in Mesquite, TX. Like many households the Bingham family values and teachings were Christ centered. However, many such families struggle to instill biblical teaching in such a way that provides sufficient latitude to laugh at oneself, relish a big platter of fried chicken, embrace friends from all walks of life, and attend church several times each week in a joyful, non-begrudging manner. After completing 1 year of college at ACU-Dallas Jan was offered an exceptional opportunity to work for Tracey-Locke, a successful Dallas based advertising agency reflective in many ways of the successful TV series, 'Mad Men'. Quite an adjustment for a girl who knew not the definition of a single 4 letter word. Nonetheless Jan learned how to politely avoid certain elements by relishing in the opportunity to roam the high fashion downtown Dallas stores in pursuit of clothes and shoes, at bargain prices. A few months later one of her best girlfriends from church suggested Jan go on a blind date with a smooth-faced nineteen (19) year old from Ohio of all places, the other side of the world. He drove a red sports car and had football player legs, but talked 'funny'. Jim was instantly smitten by Jan's classic 'Dallas girl' style, brunette features, slightly overlapping front teeth, revealing smile, and meticulously manicured long slender fingers. From that point forward the two were inseparable, agreeing in secret to marry in secret just 2 weeks to marry, but in deference to her parents and social proprieties of the time waited approximately nine (9) months to marry, on November 7, 1975. Prior to their marriage, Jim and Jan decided upon the names of their children. Their son would be named 'Jared Bryan' and daughter would be named 'Ginger Lee'. Nine years later, as though Abraham and Sarah, each were born little more than a gestation apart. Raising kids can strain every marriage to the point of breaking, including one that may seem as idealic. Yet, by the grace of God it was with thanksgiving and pride that Jim and Jan watched each of their kids obtain undergraduate and post graduate degrees and lengthy number professional credentials behind each name. Jim and Jan were blessed as well that Jared and Ginger established their professional practices in Dallas where Jared is an attorney and Ginger a psychotherapist. Jan devoted her life to her children and instilled in them the same principles, morals, and values with which she was raised; the effort to which she quickly suggests was the source of premature graying hair that she dutifully covered twice each month for as long as can be remembered. In mid-June 2017, Jan was diagnosed with end-stage pancreatic cancer and was given an exceptionally small window of survival.Even in the face of certain death, Jan’s faith in our Lord and Savior never wavered and she confidently and emphatically attested her faith and that she knew where she was going.Jim, who often called Jan his “gift from God,” like in a fairy-tale conclusion, unwaverly and faithfully loved and comforted Jan, never leaving her side. Her faith in such a perilous situation is the definition and ultimate example of faith and devotion for all to witness, admire, and aspire to; her love, devotion, kindness, and generosity to her family, friends, and anyone she ever met is a legacy. Jan leaves this legacy to countless friends and family who survive her, including, but not limited to: her husband, Jim Hagood of Plano, Texas; her son Jared Hagood of Dallas, Texas; her daughter Ginger Hagood-Story and son-in-law Corey Story of Dallas, Texas; parents Curtis and Lillian Bingham of Mesquite, Texas; brother Gary Bingham and sister-in-law Cecilia Bingham of Mesquite, Texas; her nephew Adam Bingham and wife Rachel Bingham of Charlotte, NC; her great niece and nephew, Ava and Anderson Bingham of Charlotte, NC; her niece Samantha Kipp and husband Shae Kipp of Celeste, Texas; sister-in-law Deb Paplacyzk andhusband Jim Paplacyzk of Gahanna, Ohio; niece Katie King and husband Chad King of Delaware, Ohio; her niece Angie Ballinger and husband Kyle Ballinger and her great niece Hayley Ballinger of Gahanna, Ohio. Although she is gone too soon, we have been blessed to have had her in our lives.A memorial service for Jan Hagood will be held at The Branch Church, located at 3601 Huffines Blvd., Carrollton, Texas 75010 on Saturday July 8, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., after which Jan’s family will open her home, located at 3112 Clymer Dr., Plano, Texas 75025, to friends and family from 3:00-6:00 p.m.All are invited. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (community.tshrc.org) (Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, Texas 75219).
