James Edward Rutledge of Mesquite passed away on September 18, 2006. Born near Elmo in Kaufman County on April 16, 1917, he was raised in Kaufman and Terrell, graduating from high school in Amarillo.After high school, he worked at an electric motor repair shop, and later in the west Texas oil fields.He married Aneta Love Jobson of Mesquite on Christmas day of 1938.He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II as a B-25 mechanic.After the war, he returned to Mesquite, became a Master Electrician, and started Rutledge Electric Company, where he worked on many local buildings and homes. James enjoyed family vacations to southwestern Colorado where he spent many days fly-fishing the streams and rivers.He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who will be missed by his family. James is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Aneta Love;his son Sam and his wife Connie; two grandchildren who adored him, Melissa Rutledge of Austin and Sean Rutledge, a student at UT in Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale.
