James "Damon" Carter

CARTER, Damon (J.D.) of Mesquite born May 29, 1926, passed away March 23, 2014. Preceded in death by mother & sister and son, Mike Carter. Survived by wife of 44 years, Sheila; son, Steve of Chipley, FL.; daughters, Pat Carter Rogers of Destin, FL; Lisa McNutt of Daphne, Ala; Kouri & wife, Linda of Ft. Worth, TX;grandchildren, Rickie Eddy of Destin, Fl, Crystal Lewis and Emily McNutt of Humble, TX. Damon was a mechanical engineer and loved anything with a motor and wheels. He taught automotive at Eastfield Jr. College for 14 years.He enjoyed people and many friends among the staff and students, he was known for his quick wit and sense of humor.There was no limit to his ability to quickly determine and solve problems.After retiring from teaching, he owned and operated “Carter Custom Trucks”.After selling that business, he worked as supervisor for 10 years for a government immigration contractor. Many friends of various nationalites admired and loved “Mr. J. D.”on that job. Service will be 11:00AM Thursday March 27, 2014 at New Hope Funeral Home, 500 E. Hwy. 80, Sunnyvale, TX. Visitation will be at New Hope Wednesday from 5PM – 7PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the wounded warriors association.
