Jack Wilson

July 17, 1929 — September 2, 2020

Wilson, Jack age 91, of Mesquite Texas died on September 2, 2020.  He was born Leo Lester Humes in Cody, Wyoming on July 17, 1929 to Frank and Lillian Humes.

When he was two years old, his mother abandoned him along with his infant sister, who was later adopted.  Likely because he was partially deaf, Jack was never adopted, and was raised in several orphanages in Montana until he ran away at age 16.  He labored on ranches and a variety of other manual labor jobs until he eventually made his way to Dallas, Texas in 1951 where he settled down.

Jack was a Freemason who was an active member for as long as his health would allow, and felt deeply for the organization, crediting the work he did with them for helping him to learn how to speak and read.

He is survived by his wife, Elnita Wilson, sons Ron Wilson, Glen Wilson and wife Tami, David Wilson and wife Frances, Ken Stuart, daughter Renee Murfitt,  grandchildren Jeremy, Adam, Colleen, Amanda, Meghann, Brittany, and Madeleine, and seven great-grandchildren.  Jack was loved by all who knew him.

His kindness and loving heart were proof to all that it is possible to overcome the worst kind of childhood and still become an absolutely amazing husband, father, grandfather, and human being.

A funeral service will be held at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, Texas on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 3 pm.  Viewing and visitation will precede the service at 2 pm on the same day and location.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Wilson, Adam Wilson, Leath Matte, Johnathan Wilson, Rob Welcher and Drew Webster.
