Jack Motley, 92, passed from this earth on August 11, 2013. He was born to Robert L. and Bertha Motley on Oct. 11, 1920 in Reinhart, TX.He was a lifelong resident of Dallas County and a fourth generation Texan. He was married for 63 years to Alice, the love of his life.Together they raised a daughter, Mary Shewmake of Mesquite, and a son, Ed Motley of Arlington. Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps.He served over three years during World War II as an electrician with the 1885 Aviation Engineers Battalion including a year and a half in the South Pacific on Guam and Okinawa. After his discharge from the Army, Jack returned to Dallas and began working for John E. Mitchell Co. where he worked for 36 years as a tool and die maker. Jack retired in 1982 and pursued his passion for golf which he played well into his 80s shooting a hole-in-one at the young age of 79, one of his proudest accomplishments. Jack was a 32 degree Mason and past master of the R. C. Buckner Lodge.He was a member of the Dallas Scottish Rite, the York Rite and the Hella Temple Shrine. Of all of his accomplishments, Jack will be best remembered as a father, grandfather, and a friend.He always had time for his three grandsons, giving each their own individual attention.He was passionate about any endeavor, insisting that “if it was worth doing, it was worth doing right”. Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife Alice, his three brothers, Fred, Edward and Robert, and his two sisters, Mary and Eileen.He is survived by his daughter, Mary Shewmake and husband Steve of Mesquite, son, Ed Motley and wife Linda of Arlington; grandsons Chris Shewmake and wife Holly of Dallas, Zachary Motley and wife Karen of Grand Prairie, and Brad Motley and wife Emily of Haslet; great granddaughters Madison Shewmake, Audrey Shewmake, Addison Motley and a fourth great grandchild due to arrive in March, 2014.
