J. David Smith

SMITH, J. David of Mesquite, TX was born October 16, 1960, passed away November 13, 2012. David was a very loving husband to Jana, his wife of more than 27 years. He was a devoted family man and always bragged about his children Allison, Andrew and son-in-law T.J. His whole family meant everything to him! Everyone loved Davids smile. Very rarely was he without one. He had a great sense of humor and knew how to make everyone laugh. He also had a servants heart and loved everyone. He would do anything for anyone. He didnt ask for any praise or recognition; he just served, and loved it! He touched many lives and wanted to make sure everyone was taken care of. He loved the Lord and we know he is rejoicing with Him now. He grew up, was baptized, and was married at Northway Baptist Church. At his passing, he was a member of Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church in Dallas where he and his family have been for the last 20 years. He made many friends through those churches. David was a hard worker and had been employed by UPS for 28 years. He was a graduate of Newman Smith High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. He never met a stranger and those who knew him have said they were blessed to have known him. David loved lots of things besides his family and friends. Among them were planes, trains, motorcycles, Disney and Nascar. He was always at an air show, a train show, or riding the motorcycle in a Christmas Toy Run or on an annual ride with his dad. He loved watching Nascar races. He also loved to travel with his family whether it was to Colorado, on a cruise or to Disneyworld. And he loved the outdoors--camping and picnicking were two of his favorite things. He had been to 49 of the 50 states as well as many different countries and loved every minute of it! He is survived by his wife, Jana (Johnson) Smith; his daughter Allison Fields and her husband, T.J.; and his son, Andrew. Also by his parents, Dean and Dottie Smith; his brother, Kevin Smith and his wife Vicki; and his grandmother, Myrtle DeLong and her husband Lew; and numerous extended family members. We love you and we miss you, but we will see you in heaven soon! The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, November 19, 2012 at New Hope Funeral Home, 500 E Hwy 80, Sunnyvale, TX 75182. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 10:00am at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church, 9810 LaPrada, Dallas, TX 75228. Intermentwill be at Laurel Oaks Cemetery 12649 Lake June Rd. Mesquite, TX. 75180. In lieu of flowers,the family requests that contributions bemade to Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church.
