JD was born in Longview, Texas, on November 11, 1938. I met "J" in June of 1996. A friend and neighbor of JD introduced us accidentally, but that was the beginning of knowing the most outstanding man I've ever met. I never saw JD angry. He seemed oblivious to our tumultuous world, even though I know his eyes had seen much more sorrow, anger, and fear than I can imagine. This man, who in my eyes was so brave and strong, could also make me laugh hysterically with his funny stories. He never told me the evil or scary things about being a police officer, but I know he had experienced plenty, as every officer inevitably will. Our 27 years together went so fast that I lost count of our ages; he still seemed filled with youthful exuberance.
We started singing at a little cafe a few years after we met, which became our hobby/profession together in retirement, bringing us so much joy.
JD passed away on his birthday, 11/11/24, and I will miss him every hour until the day I leave this world and meet him again in Heaven.
God's speed JD.
