Ida Mae Johnston

October 9, 1921 — June 19, 2014

Ida Mae Johnston of Rockwall, TX, entered the gates of heaven on June 19, 2014. As a mom, sister, and Nana, she modeled love and grace to her family each day. Ida Mae entered this world as the daughter of a farmer on October 9, 1921. Her older sister, Juanita, welcomed her into the family, and they were blessed with a younger brother, TJ Smith, two years later. Ida Mae graduated from Richland Springs High School and served in the Civil Service during World War II. She met the love of her life, Joe Edward Johnston, in Lampasas and they were married on May 25, 1946. She worked in the Ector County Independent School District as an Administrative Assistant for over 25 years.She and Joe were long time members of Crescent Park Baptist Church where she served as a 2nd grade Sunday School teacher.She was blessed with two children, Jim Johnston and his wife Bonny of San Antonio and Karen Johnston Cavin and her husband Bob of Rockwall.She was well loved by grandchildren Jeremy Johnston, Jill Marion, Kimberly Gore, Zach Jackson, Christi Morgan, Kyle Cavin, and numerous great grandchildren. Ida Mae was preceded in death by her mother, Loyce Lee Smith; her father, James Madison Smith; her sister, Juanita Smith Fuller; and her husband, Joe Edward Johnston.
