Harold Dan Preston passed away peacefully in his home in Mesquite, Texas, on February 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife Paula; son, Brian; daughter, Angela Harvey and husband Darin and their daughter Madison; and his sister, Carmelita Glover. Throughout his life, Harold was known as Dan Preston. He left behind a legacy that will be remembered by those he loved for generations.
Dan was born in Dallas, Texas, on June 7th, 1943, to Buford and Geneva Preston. He grew up on Delafield Lane in Dallas, where he met his lifelong partner, Paula Word. Dan and Paula grew up as neighbors and soon became friends during their daily walks to school. They both attended Samuel High School, where they fell in love and became high school sweethearts. The two eventually married on January 11, 1964 and their love for each other still holds strong. Dan was a warmhearted husband who was proud of his wife, family, and the life they created together.
Dan was a hard worker who always took pride in his field as a union sheet metal technician. He was employed by MK Specialty and retired in 2008 at the age of 65.
His earlier hobbies included soccer, go-cart racing, motocross, and muscle cars, including a brand new 1965 GTO. Later, he took up sailing with his son-in-law, Darin, but insisted on being called "Captain".
Dan Preston will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, father-in-law, and papa, and a compassionate human being who inspired us all. He will be greatly missed and cherished by his friends and family.
