Harley Edgar Bellows passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the age of 81 after a brief illness.Harley was born in Blueridge, Texas on November 8, 1928 and was a lifelong resident of Texas. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 59 years, Evelyn.Harley and Evelyn were married at the former New Hope Baptist Church in Sunnyvale. After living in Pleasant Grove for many years, they moved to Sunnyvale where Harley continued to grow tomatoes, onions, and fruit trees in the back yard. Harley is also survived by daughter Donna Bellows Carleton; two grandchildren, Travis and Lorena; and an amazing great-granddaughter Harley Elena; all of Virginia.Known as Pops to the kids, Harley was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who never missed an opportunity to travel to Virginia to see them, or take them along on one of many family vacations.Pops was known for telling great bedtime stories, which usually resulted in laughter rather than sleepiness! He always had time to tell just one more . In addition, sister Carolyn and brothers James, David, and Paul survive Harley. He also leaves behind several brothers-and-sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews, many of which thought of him as a second dad or their best pal. Harley enjoyed many active years of membership in the Pleasant Grove Kiwanis and is a former Lieutenant Governor of the organization. He and Evelyn spent many hours together working on Kiwanis projects to benefit children, both locally and throughout the world. He was very proud of their accomplishments. Recently, Harley retired (not for the first time!) from real estate. The following day, he went online and passed mandatory educational real estate exams, just because he could! Harley served in both the Army and the Army National Guard from 1949 until 1955. While serving in the Army National Guard, Harley was stationed overseas where he was joined by wife Evelyn in Salzburg, Austria, a place they returned to several times many years later. Harley touched many lives both directly and indirectly. He never met a stranger, and was known to run into old friends while traveling here and abroad. Harley was looked up to and admired by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He didnt measure progress or wealth by what he owned, but rather how he loved and was loved by others. Family and friends were precious to him. His legacy of love will remain with us always. Is there anything I can do for you before I leave?
