Gussie Bee Allen

March 11, 1908 — September 23, 2008

Gussie Bee Allen was born on March 11, 1908 to proud parents Sue Joe and Ed Wood in her grandfather's small house in Wylie, Texas. She was born and raised in Wylie just like her father before her. As a young girl Gussie loved playing basketball with the boys. Gussie was one of the brightest students at her school and she furthered her education by attending The North Texas Teachers College in Denton Texas. She taught Elementary school at Kreymer and Wylie for five years, bringing her love of education to every class she taught. On July 05, 1941,Gussie married Buddy Allen. Buddy thought Gussie was too cute for her name, so he called her Jean to the extent that his family did not know her real name for years. Gussie and Buddy did not have children, but had a good life together and shared much love with their extended family members. She was hired by Colfrey Brother Terrazzo Company in 1956 to be a book keeper and ended up managing their office until she retired at eighty. During the last few decades Gussie was a Scarlet Sister and one twelfth of a Dirty Dozen. She survived a brutal beating that even a champ half her age would have difficulties over coming and never lost her faith. Gussie is a woman that had seen and lived through it all. Even in her last week, she maintained her sharp mind, with a quick wit and the ability to keep track of names, ages, and events in the lives of her numerous friends and family. She will always be loved and missed by many. Survived by 5 nieces & nephews, Thomas Campbell, Hellen McSpadden, Wilma Sturdivant, Buster Sanders & David Sanders; 11 great nieces & nephews; 22 great, great nieces & nephews; and 15 great, great, great nieces and nephews; 1 great, great, great , great niece. Service will be 10:00AM Thursday September 25, 2008 at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00PM - 8:00PM.
