Grace Roberts

September 1, 1923 — February 26, 2011

ROBERTS, Grace S. Born September 1, 1923, passed away February 26, 2011. An Angel living here on earth has returned home. Devoted mother, grandmother and wife, Grace was 87 years old when she passed. She was born in Eolia, Kentucky. She married June 6, 1943 and settled in Pound, Virginia where her 5 children were born. She moved to Dallas in 1962 where she worked for Minyards Food Stores for over 30 years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking and reading. She was most happy when she was making something for one of her grandchildren or great grandchildren. Cooking for the entire family was something she prized herself on. For years she hosted fish frys and would have everyone over, cooking up enough food to feed an army larger than the Roberts family. She quilted and crocheted a blanket for every child. She was the best babysitter and was always ready to have a baby or toddler over to keep her company. Grace was a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church of Mesquite for 38 years. With 40 plus family members she always made sure to arrange a party every month to celebrate the birthdays of each and every individual. A Nanny hosted party was complete with a personalized cake for everyone honored, lunch and presents. A truly selfless person, Nanny never rested while she waited tirelessly on everyone except herself on party day. Family tradition was something she honored dearly and some of her traditions date back to her childhood. Christmas without her full assortment of cakes and desserts would have never been the same. Grace Roberts most crowning achievement in her life was her service to her family. She was married for 60 years and was a devoted mother since 1946. Like the stitches that hold her passionate quilts together, Grace Roberts was the loving thread that instilled loyalty, devotion and family to each and every piece of her ultimate family quilt.
