Glenn Ray Farmer December 3, 1959 – November 6, 2016 Glenn Ray Farmer, 56, beloved husband, adoring father and devoted son passed away peacefully at home after a brief, but courageous battle. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Margaret “Mam” Matthews; grandfather, Homer Matthews; aunts, Anita Morgan and Linda Jones; and cousin, David Matthews. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Farmer; daughter, Elizabeth Glenn “Ella” Farmer; mother, Patricia Farmer; aunts and uncles, Gene Jones, Jerry and Donna Matthews, Sharon and Ron Wingard, Shirley Matthews-Davila and Ray Morgan; numerous cousins and second cousins; and many faithful friends. Glenn Farmer was born on December 3, 1959 at Baylor Hospital and grew up in East Dallas on Cordova Street in Lakewood. He had fond childhood memories of family holidays and vacations and reminisced about playing outside until after dark on a street where everyone knew their neighbors. He was a member of East Dallas Baptist Church and, like many of his family members, attended Woodrow Wilson High School. After graduation, he moved to Denton to attend the University of North Texas and was active in the Baptist Student Union, serving as a summer missionary in New Mexico. He developed many close friendships in Denton and met Elizabeth “Liz” Taylor, who became his wife in April of 1996, after a short 10-year courtship. Glenn worked as a salesman in different industries selling such diverse products as coffee, promotional products and asphalt.Although Glenn was successful in all his work endeavors, his true life’s passion was not his occupation.Instead, he was occupied with living life and was passionate about family connections and traditions. In 2002, Glenn became a father on his 43rd birthday, an event that was possibly the highpoint of his life.He affectionately called his only daughter, the “joy-giver” and was devoted to her. He was deeply saddened that he would not get to teach her to drive, but was a strong example of a committed and caring father. Glenn loved to travel, and was gifted in planning and organizing family vacations to find the best deals on unforgettable experiences.Although he has reached his final destination, his initiative to travel and pursuit of fun activities continue to be the source of many cherished family memories. Glenn was always available to help and was the first person to call in an emergency. He was very resourceful and, could fix “anything but a broken heart”. Regardless of whether the problem was car trouble, household repairs, legal issues, or health problems, Glenn would know what to do and respond with confidence and competence. While he will be missed, Glenn will not be forgotten. He was a truly unique and special person.Although he was intensely private, with a strong dislike for social media, he was also extremely personable, often being the “life-of-the-party”.He will be remembered for his storehouse of knowledge on every imaginable subject, a wonderful sense of humor and his lavish generosity. He fought a losing battle with a dignity and grace that was an inspiration to his care-givers and family. He reassured his wife and loved ones that, while he was sad to leave, he was not afraid as he went to be with Jesus. The memorial service will be Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 2:00 pm at New Hope Funeral Home.
