Gerald "Jerry" Mayo

Gerald "Jerry" Mayo, Jr., age 71, passed away on May 1, 2024. at his home in Forney, Texas surrounded by his loving family after a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jerry was born in Waco, Texas to Gerald M. Mayo, Sr. and Wanda J. Voss Mayo on December 28, 1952. Jerry married the love of his life, Wanda Mayo, on September 6, 1974 in Dallas, Texas. It was an amazing love story that endured for 50 years with love at first sight for both.

Jerry worked at Avery Dennison for 35 years until his retirement in 2013. He was a very hard-working, devoted, family man and loved his Dallas Cowboys. He was a very caring, compassionate person who enjoyed family gatherings, playing his guitar, riding his motorcycles, watching sports, cooking on his grill, and was always cracking jokes.

He was preceded in death by son, Kevin Mayo; parents, Gerald and Wanda Mayo; and grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; daughter, Robin Glidewell and husband, Jeff; son, Randy Miller and wife, Lisa; daughter-in-law, Melissa Mayo; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister, Connie Partain and husband, Nick; brother, Darrell Mayo; sister, Christy Najera and husband, Danny; aunt, Pat Schmitz; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He loved all of his family so much including his brother and sisters. He always said he had the best children that anyone could ever ask for. He was Papaw to all his grandkids and great-grandkids. He loved to cook for everyone and they especially liked his famous gumbo.

Public Viewing will be held Tuesday, 7th of May, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home 500 US Highway 80 East Sunnyvale, Texas 75182.

Services for Jerry Mayo will be held on Wednesday, 8th of May, 2024, at New Hope Funeral Home with Reverend Stephen Daywitt officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Memorial Gardens.
