Gene Hogue, Delbert Allen Eugene Hogue, of Mesquite, Texas, passed away at his home on October 21, 2021 at the age of 86. He was born on June 25, 1935 at home on Harrison Street in Dallas, Texas. He was the only son of Delbert Lloyd Hogue and Lillie Mae Moon. He spent most of his life in and around Dallas, Texas. He attended the old Forest Ave. High School. When he was 17 years old, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed at Boston, Massachusetts and then Sabine Pass, Texas. When he returned home after his services, he went to work for the utility company, Dallas Power & Light Co. (which later became TXU and Oncor). He retired at the age of 57. He was also a member of the James Ladd Burgess Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. Gene never met a stranger. He was also an active person. Sports were a favorite past time. He played baseball and football throughout his youth. Then he played fast-pitch softball and later was a coach of both men’s and women’s church and commercial softball teams. He was an amazing coach and would often brag that he had taught three generations to play softball. He also enjoyed fishing, going to the rodeo, attending church, growing a garden, cooking, and eating with family and friends. His family was the most important thing throughout his entire life. He leaves behind his wife, Carol Hogue, of 47 years. He also leaves behind his most beloved sons, Russell A. Hogue (and his wife Myra), Richard G. Hogue (and his wife Rosemary), and Randall L. Hogue. His oldest son, Jackie Eugene Hogue passed away as an infant. His pride and joy were his grandchildren: Ryan E. Hogue, Justin T. Hogue, Rowdy L. Hogue, Savannah Hogue Atkins, Hannah M. Hogue, Ashley R. Vasquez-Hogue, and Emili M. Hogue. His first grandchild, Cody Allen Hogue, passed away as an infant. Gene also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren. Others he considered family are: Sarah, Joseph, Shannon, Evan, and Jeremy. Gene always felt great love and gratitude to his grandparents, his aunts and uncles, and all of his cousins for the life and time that they shared with him. The family has requested in lieu of flowers a donation in Gene's name to the Dallas County Cowboy Church. Private burial will take place at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
