Tommy Dorsey, 67 Gene Thomas “Tommy” Dorsey, Jr., 67 of Mesquite, Texas, passed away Friday, February 10, 2017, with his loving wife by his side. Tommy was born September 11, 1949 in Houston, Texas to Gene Thomas and Bernice “Pookie” Dorsey.He graduated from Ross Sterling High School in 1967.On July 31, 1970 he married Becky Durden in Houston.Tommy was employed by AT&T and worked for many years in the DATEC division.From a young age until the time of his death he had a passion for music.He also enjoyed watching sports, especially those involving his children and grandchildren.Tommy was thrilled to hear that he soon would have an additional family member with the upcoming birth of another grandchild this August from his daughter and her husband. Tommy is survived by his wife Becky of 46 years, son Duane Dorsey and his wife Misha of Houston, TX, daughter D’Lana Gonnell and husband Anthony of Heartland, TX, father Gene Thomas Dorsey of Houston, TX, sister Diane Dunbar and husband Jim of Lufkin, TX; two grandsons Brock and Bryce Dorsey of Houston, TX, niece Alyssa Dunbar of Lufkin, TX and nephew Tyler Dunbar of Lufkin, TX. He is preceded in death by his mother Bernice “Pookie” Dorsey and brother Larry Alan Dorsey. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Rd., Houston, TX 77024.Reception to follow memorial service.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to New Hope Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens in Sunnyvale, Texas 75182.Family and friends may view and sign the guest book on line at www.newhopefh.com.The final resting place will be a private service to be held at Lake Travis, in Austin, Texas.
